Spreading Kindness with Handmade Valentine Hearts

This February, we are finding ways to practice kindness and share joy to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family. Today we are sharing a new family tradition – spreading kindness in our community with handmade valentine hearts. Melissa and her family started this tradition last Valentine’s Day with friends who were visiting them in Crested Butte. They made dozens of handmade hearts and hung them all around town.

This is a wonderful family activity that is creative and crafty and can spread joy in your community at the same time. This is a fun project where families craft together, making paper hearts using different mediums and materials – like watercolor paints, markers, colored pencils, stickers, washi tape and more. Setting up for this is not too daunting at all. Craft supplies and yummy snacks is what you need. We were delighted to work with Tum-E Yummies drinks on this post. The vitamin packed kids drinks are perfect for this crafting and adventurous activity.

Let’s get started…

After the paper hearts have been made, take a walk through your community spreading joy by placing the hearts on city streets. You can use scotch tape or masking tape to stick hearts around town. We stuck hearts on light posts, sign posts, and our neighbors’ and friends’ doors. This project is a great way to spend time as a family and teach your kids the importance of spreading kindness. Who doesn’t enjoy seeing a surprise handmade heart on their front door? Enjoy spreading some Valentine’s cheer this month!
